South Sudan
King Mohammed VI of Morocco has ended his official visit to South Sudan during which he sought means to strengthen Morocco’s trade and economic presence in the continent.
The King also visited a hospital in Juba funded by the Moroccan government at a time when violence has left several people either dead or injured.
“The two days visit symbolises the commitment of His Majesty King Mohammed VI and H.E. General Salva Kiir Mayardit the president of the Republic of South Sudan on the values of Pan-Africanism, solidarity and fraternity and reflects the strong willingness of Morocco to contribute to the consolidation of the stability and the peace process in South Sudan,” Martin Ellia Lomoro, Morocco’s minister of cabinet affairs said. Morocco says it is committed to funding the construction of a new capital in central Sudan for an estimated 5 million dollars.
South Sudan’s president Salvar Kiir has called for a peaceful settlement of the crisis between Morocco and Western Sahara.
Morocco is also seeking to strengthen diplomatic ties after its reintegration in the African Union. From South Sudan King Mohamed VI moves to Gabon.
